After Ehud, Shamgar son of Anath [became judge]. He delivered Israel by striking down 600 Philistines with an ox goad. - Judges 3:31
A revivalist I know preaches a message from Judges 3:31 on the life of Shamgar, son of Anath. In this message, he delivers the central theme of Shamgar's life like this:
Shamgar did what he could with what he had where he was.
As a judge in Israel, Shamgar killed 600 Philistines with only an ox goad (basically, a long, pointed pole). He became a mighty victor in all Israel, simply because he made himself available to God in the time that had been given to him by his Creator.
So, what is your excuse?
Paul persecuted Christ-followers. King David was a murderous adulterer. Moses, apparently, had some sort of speech impediment. All three (though flawed) served God faithfully. The Lord gives all of His children the ability to serve Him in some way and also gives them the authority to do something with it. All Shamgar had was an ox goad.
What has God given you to use for His purposes and glory, and when do you plan to start using it? As long as we remain available, God will make us able.
Success is the maximum utilization of the ability that you have. - Zig Ziglar
