Benaiah son of Jehoiada was the son of a brave man from Kabzeel, a man of many exploits. Benaiah killed two sons of Ariel of Moab, and he went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. He also killed an Egyptian who was seven and a half feet tall. Even though the Egyptian had a spear in his hand like a weaver’s beam, Benaiah went down to him with a club, snatched the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and then killed him with his own spear. - 1 Chronicles 11:22-23
I like movies, but I really like movies with a clear hero. My favorite movies are those where the hero steps up and defeats the evil enemy who thinks he cannot be defeated. Perhaps this is why I wish they would make a movie about Benaiah (and King David's other "mighty men").
Benaiah makes (in some ways) David (the guy who slew Goliath) look like a "poser." Of course, there is much more to David's story than an encounter with a Philistine giant, but you have to wonder if Benaiah wouldn't have just grabbed Goliath by his beard and just slapped him silly. Benaiah was bad (b-b-b-bad to the bone), but even he (in all his earthly prowess) was nothing compared to Jesus.
Christ faced down the evil enemy (Satan) with a club of grace, snatched his weapon (death) from his hand, and then defeated him with it! And while Benaiah is worthy of admiration, Jesus is worthy of our worship. In a day when real heroes seem to be overshadowed by those whom media creates, consider the Lord of our salvation and bow down.
God is a hero. - Stacie Orrico
