All He Has Done

You shall answer and say before the LORD your God, "My father was a wandering Aramean, and he went down to Egypt and sojourned there, few in number; but there he became a great, mighty and populous nation." - Deuteronomy 26:5

Upon arriving in the Promised Land, each tribal leader was commanded to fill a container with the "first fruits" of the harvest and present it to the high priest. At the moment of presentation, he also had to make a speech that reminded everyone it had only been by God's grace and mercy that this blessing had occurred. A key part of that speech was the repeated declaration of God's faithfulness to Israel during its Egyptian sojourn.

Reading this record should remind each of us to reflect on all that God has done for us to "bring us through." Reflection and meditation on God's faithfulness, mercy, and grace should serve as spiritual fuel, spurring us on to future faith and obedience.

Be busy about God's business, but also take time to remember, reflect, and thank Him for all he has already done.

Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us. - Abraham Lincoln
