They are to make a sanctuary for Me so that I may dwell among them. - Exodus 25:8
On Mt. Sinai, Moses met with God and received all of the instructions concerning the tabernacle. YHWH was going to live among His people and the place where He would live had to be "holy" or "set apart" for His use. It must be special. Now, if it was difficult for God to dwell in the middle of sinful mankind, imagine how much more difficult it would be for Him to live among such people. How could God make a "holy of holies" there?
It was not easy for the Israelites to accomplish the task of constructing a place for God to dwell among His people. The minute intricacies and details involved in fashioning a tabernacle (as outlined in Exodus) were obviously difficult; however, their task does not compare to the work that Christ accomplished on the cross.
Jesus made it possible for the sanctuary of God to be in us, not just among us. Wow!
