And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and so you shall be a blessing.... – Genesis 12:2
God said, "I will make you ... I will bless you ... and so you shall be...." Yet, how often we confuse that order!
God told Abraham that He would make him into a great nation. Yet, Abraham had no son when God spoke this promise. Then God told Abraham that He would bless him. At the time, Abraham had no context or framework by which to comprehend what this blessing might involve. Finally, God told, rather He stated as fact, the eventual outcome of His "making" and "blessing." Abraham would in-turn be a blessing to the nations.
Putting it simply, Abraham's ability to bless was necessarily predicated upon God's assured promise to first "make" and "bless" him. In the same way, God must first "make" us by His grace and "bless" us with His presence before we can ever be a blessing to others.
If you bear the marks of basic humanity, in a sense God has made you, but you must also bear the marks of His Son if you desire to be a blessing to the nations.
Thou hast made us for Thyself, O Lord; and our heart is restless until it rests in Thee. – Augustine
