So I spoke to you, but you didn't listen. You rebelled against YHWH's command and defiantly went up into the hill country. - Deuteronomy 1:43
After the Israelites sided with 10 of the twelve spies and decided that they were too weak to enter the promised land, they realized their mistake and attempted to correct their error by moving ahead without God's approval. In clear defiance of God's prohibition and warnings, they acted of their own volition and were soundly defeated.
When we act in clear disobedience of God, we must be aware that even though as Christ-followers we live under the covenant of His grace, we should not expect His blessing. Negative consequences, chastisement, and punishment always follows disobedience. Sometimes the "pain" is felt in a tangible loss, but at other times it is understood or comprehended (usually later) as the absence of God's blessing.
And be assured that there no victory without it.
You cannot obey God without your obedience spilling out in a blessing to all those around you. - Adrian Rogers
