The scepter will not depart from Judah, or the staff from between his feet, until He whose right it is comes and the obedience of the peoples belongs to Him. - Genesis 49:10
Jacob (also known as Israel) blessed each of his sons before he died. Among these, his blessing for Judah announced that the power to rule would never leave his descendants and with these few words, we see the promise of Christ revealed.
As the centuries passed, the will of God expressed in this blessing (though never in question) was eventually accomplished (as revealed by Jacob) when Jesus of Nazareth, a direct descendant of Judah, became the eternal King of kings. The word of Jacob was always governed by the will of God, God's will is always done, and therefore, the outcome was never in doubt.
Now, since many of us have the Word of God so readily available, let us be sure (when readily discernible) to bless only those things which God has ordained. In this way, such blessings will also be assured.
It is generally true that all that is required to make men unmindful of what they owe God for any blessing is that they should receive that blessing often and regularly. - Richard Whately
