Choosing a New Leader

So now, let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and set him over the land of Egypt. - Genesis 41:33

It is an important moment in every organization when a new leader is chosen. Particularly, when this organization is in the middle of a crisis. For example, Egypt faced a great famine and in order to be prepared for the lean years ahead, they needed a great leader. The Pharaoh at the time chose Joseph (son of Israel) and the country not only survived the famine, it prospered.

Are you in a position to play a part in the selection of a new leader for your church, organization, or business? If you are also a follower of Christ, there are a couple of things you need to consider. First of all, does this person walk with God, what evidence exists that they live in the presence of the Almighty? It should be obvious. Second, are they wise and intelligent? Does their past reveal a life of good decisions, and of course the ability to recover from the bad decisions we each inevitably make? Naturally, there are other questions to be asked, but as a foundation you should always begin here.

The Pharaoh chose well when he chose Joseph, and you can, too.

We need leadership, and we need it now. - Byron Dorgan
