Desire Is Not Enough

But by the twenty-third year of the reign of King Joash, the priests had not repaired the damage to the temple. - 2 Kings 12:6

Under High Priest Jehoida's influence, young King Joash of Judah gave instructions for the repair of the Temple of God in Jerusalem. Interestingly, 23 years later nothing had changed, because the Temple remained in a state of disrepair. This extended period of inactivity and apathy finally led Joash to declare a new freewill offering, the collection of funds, and the eventual Temple upgrade. Yet, for over two decades, good intent was seemingly wasted by inaction.

The simple desire to do good is never enough, though it must certainly begin there. A person's or enterprise's passion must provoke it to positive action or that passion may be lost in a lack of motivation and even waste away in the muck and mire of apathy.

Any "thing" that we know God has put on our heart to do must be done now, today. If we wait, it is most likely that the resources we need (and intended to invest) will be wasted on things that do not truly matter.

What are you waiting for?
