Devoted to the King?

But in response, Ittai vowed to the king, "As surely as YHWH lives and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king is, whether it means life or death, your servant will be there!" - 2 Samuel 15:21

Are you devoted to the King? Ittai was, devoted to King David, that is.

David, king of Israel, fled Jerusalem because his son (Absalom) was invading. A lot of the king's "subjects" fled with him, but many (fearing reprisal) chose to serve Absalom. Ittai was one of those who refused to rebel. He made the conscious decision to follow David, whether it meant life or death. Ittai was absolutely devoted to his king.

Our King is Jesus, but I wonder if we are truly devoted to Him? Have we surrendered everything to our King? Can we say, like Ittai, "Wherever my Lord the King is, whether it means life or death, your servant will be there?"

I wonder.

The eyes see what the heart loves. If the heart loves God and is single in this devotion, then the eyes will see God whether others see Him or not. - Warren Wiersbe
