They were all speaking well of Him and were amazed by the gracious words that came from His mouth, yet they said, "Isn't this Joseph's son?" - Luke 4:22
When it comes to Jesus, many in this world cannot see God for the man.
For example, in the account above, Jesus returned to His hometown and spoke in the synagogue as He had in many other villages. The good citizens of Nazareth thought Jesus was impressively eloquent, but still only the son of a dead carpenter. Jesus may be accepted by people around the world as a great prophet and teacher, but in their eyes He is not the Son of God. As in Nazareth, the result of this unbelief is the absence of Jesus' ministry, their inability to inherit eternal life, and resulting eternal torment.
It does not have to be so, if they would only see Jesus for who He truly is. To be our Savior He must absolutely be the only Son of God. Don't you see?
Nothing poses a greater challenge and opportunity to the church than the overwhelming emotional pains that drive our nation into so many addictive behaviors.... Trust issues may make them cynical, tolerance issues may make them unwilling to listen, truth issues may confuse them, but acting out of brokenness will destroy them. - John Burke
