Then Joseph had a dream. When he told it to his brothers, they hated him even more. - Genesis 37:5
Have you ever had a dream? Not necessarily REM's in the middle of the night, but rather a desire or hope for a certain goal to be accomplished or for a preferred future?
Joseph had a dream. Actually, he had two. Joseph's dreams pictured him as a great leader over all of his brothers and, as you might expect, they hated him for it. Should Joseph have kept his dreams to himself? Maybe, but the fact that he shared them indicates innocence rather than arrogance. Joseph was just naïve.
Perhaps, like Joseph, you have big dreams as well. If so, the first question you need to ask yourself is if the dreams originate with God or come from a personal desire for greatness. God is not interested in making you great, unless your greatness will serve His purposes. BE SURE YOUR DREAMS ARE HIS.
Second, you should understand that if God has placed a dream upon your heart, this preferred future will not come easily. Generally speaking, people don't like dreamers. Dreamers challenge the status quo and small ideas. Our Enemy doesn't like those who desire the things of God, either; therefore, if you dream big dreams for God, your path will never be smooth.
Dream big anyway. If your dreams are His, you will not fail.
I was a peripheral visionary. I could see the future, but only way off to the side. - Steven Wright
