Sarah denied it. "I did not laugh," she said, because she was afraid. But He replied, "No, you did laugh." – Genesis 18:15
When Sarah, wife of Abraham, overheard God tell her husband that within one year she would bear a child she, well, giggled.
But, can you blame her? She was an elderly woman with an elderly husband. The pain of childlessness had long ago moved into resignation. Even though Sarah was probably aware that God had promised to make Abraham into a great nation, she could not have imagined it would ever be through her.
How are you doing? Are you still hanging on to God's promises or have you moved beyond hope to resignation and even despair? Sarah's "giggle" became laughter and joy within the providential purposes of God. Perhaps yours will, too!
Persevere, today.
Christianity is as hard as nails. Hard and tender at the same time. It's the blend that does it; neither quality would be any good without the other. – C. S. Lewis
