But as for you, keep a clear head about everything, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. - 2 Timothy 4:5
I first embarked upon vocational Christian ministry way back in May of 1987. It was a radical thing to do at the time, leaving career and security simply because I was convinced the Lord said so. This I did again in January of 1990 when, convinced of God's direction, we moved from the deep south to upstate New York, in the dead of winter. There have been other moves in the last 37 years, into different ministries and new environments (Indiana, Pennsylvania, Africa, California, New Jersey), but every "relocation" was with the understanding that I was "fulfilling the ministry" entrusted unto me by God.
Now, sneaking up on 70, I feel just as radical as I did back in 1987 and 90, and I also continue to carry the same strong sense of our Master's call to trust Him in whatever I may face. But here's the kicker. The "I" has always been a "we." There is an old African proverb that states, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."
Here's to God's blessing in going far (and sometimes fast) with Miss Cindy. Thank God for a great companion, friend, and wife.
... your soul only needs to know the will of God in order to consent to it, then surely you cannot doubt His willingness to make His will known, and to guide you in right paths. - Hannah Whitall Smith
