Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph; he forgot him. - Genesis 40:23
There is no such thing as a "self-made man;" at least, not in the Kingdom of God.
Every single person who claims Christ as Lord and Savior stands upon the shoulders of someone who stood upon the shoulders of another and another and another who eventually stood upon the shoulders of the Apostles who, like us all, owe their redemption to Christ Himself. We are not "self-made." We are God-made and we should be thankful for all of those who had a part in our re-creation.
Yet, like the ungrateful cup-bearer, we too often live lives of forgetfulness; not only ignoring the Lord who saved us, but also ignoring those who told us of the Lord who saves. Could it be that we do not "pay-it-forward" as we ought, because we are simply not thankful enough to re-pay it backward?
If you and I are in the Kingdom, it is because someone took the time to guide us toward the King. We all have our "Joseph's." Why not remember yours today?
Sometimes our light goes out but is blown into flame by another human being. Each of us owes deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this light. - Albert Schweitzer
