None of them was left except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun. - Numbers 26:65
On their march to the Promised Land, just prior to their departure from the foot of Mt. Sinai, God had Moses take a census of all the soldiers in Israel. The number came to 603,550. Forty years later, just prior to their entrance into that Land, God had Moses take another census. This second count of soldiers came to 601,730 (a net loss of 1,820 men).
How many soldiers perished in the wilderness wanderings? Exactly 603,548, all of the men who originally stood at the base of Sinai except two. All had died, except Joshua and Caleb, and yet God still preserved an army for Israel to accomplish His purposes.
Can you see it? God's will be done, but it doesn't necessarily have to be done through you and me.
In the kingdom of God, service is not a stepping stone to nobility: it is nobility. - T. W. Manson
