... because no prophecy ever came by the will of man; instead, moved by the Holy Spirit, men spoke from God. - 2 Peter 1:21

Once upon a time, a close African friend came to me with a personal issue. I was honored to see that he valued my counsel and as he explained the situation I soon began to see the difficulty in it. Due to my experience with similar situations in the past, I could have related very similar counsel except for one big difference, I was living in Africa, not the United States of America!
Since the advice I needed to give concerned his counsel to another person, I shared with him a truth that I had (with much difficulty) learned myself. That truth was this: While our opinion may matter to another person, while our experiences may give us a "leg up" on the situation, the only true advice that a person really needs is God's. People need God's advice from God's Word.
The Scriptures are God-breathed and able to teach, to train, and to correct. Anything else that we may think we have to offer is usually secondary and it will always be less than others really need. Good advice best comes from the good Word.
If it's free, it's advice; if you pay for it, it's counseling; if you can use either one, it's a miracle. - Jack Adams
