"But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us." Then Jesus said to him, "If you can? Everything is possible to the one who believes." Immediately the father of the boy cried out, "I do believe! Help my unbelief." - Mark 9:22-24
In desperation, a father whose son was plagued by a demon brought him to Jesus. However, when he arrived at the camp, Jesus was not there and none of the available disciples were able to help. By the time Jesus came down the mountain, the father was in total distress. He must have thought that his last hope was hopeless.
It is implied from his frantic words that he believed in Jesus' ability to help his son, but he was uncertain of Jesus' identity as Lord and Savior. Unless the man was willing to trust IN Christ, however, there would be no ministry FROM Christ. Ultimately, Jesus brought healing in spite of the man's weak, trembling faith.
How often are God's plans unfulfilled in our lives because of unbelief and how often have we seen the Lord achieve His purposes in spite of our own trembling faith? Lord, help our unbelief!
God loves with a great love the man whose heart is bursting with a passion for the IMPOSSIBLE. - William Booth
