They went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia and were prevented by the Holy Spirit from speaking the message in the province of Asia. - Acts 16:6
Is it possible that the Holy Spirit might ever prevent you from going somewhere or doing something for God? Isn't that sort of like God shot-blocking Himself (reference to Jon Acuff)?
Well, it may seem odd, but it happened to Paul , at least twice.
The question this presents for me is two-fold: 1) Why would the Holy Spirit do it? and 2) How did Paul know it was Him doing it? Certainly the answer I have is not definitive, but if God says, "No" to something (like your project, plan, or program), then He most likely wants you to say, "Yes" to His. When the path is blocked we must simply (or not so simply) look for another path that brings God greater glory (often achieved through our submission and surrender).
There is no harm in attempting great things for God, but sometimes the path to accomplishment is not the one we would have taken. Just be assured that if it is of God, it will be done. Press on.
