How Can We Keep Silent?

dave57pope

Then He ordered them to tell no one, but the more He would order them, the more they would proclaim it. - Mark 7:36

In all my years of pastoral ministry, a great frustration of mine has been in trying to motivate folks to be active proclaimers of the gospel. A plethora of programs have been developed and implemented by churches and ministries around the world (I have tried most), yet it has been said that only 3% of those who claim to know Christ as their Lord and Savior will ever share their personal testimony of faith in Him.

Jesus understood (better than us) the rebellious minds of men when He ordered them to keep silent about all that He had done for them, for when He did, they refused to shut up. On the other hand, God's redeemed people, now commanded to go and tell, remain mute.

If salvation by grace through faith in Jesus remains Good News, then how can we keep silent?

Strive not so much to succeed as to do the right thing. Success and failure are in God's hands. I am not on the way to success; I am on the Way. What a difference! - Selwyn Hughes
