Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time.... - 1 Peter 5:6

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God...."
Excuse me, but if a person is truly conscious of God's hand, then how could they not be humbled?
Unfortunately, it is easy to forget the omnipresent hand of God. Humility must be the conscious act of a Christ-follower, meaning that pride can sometimes enter unnoticed and, let's face it, we spend much of our life in a spiritually "unconscious" state.
Whose interests will I serve today? The Father's or mine? How easy it is to forget, if only for a moment, that God sovereignly controls all things and that when we wrestle for control of even the smallest detail, it is disobedience.
Paul said that one day every knee will bow, but the question for us is, "Are our "knees" bowing, right now?"
A proud man can learn humility, but he will be proud of it. - Mignon McLaughlin
