And I will also make every effort that after my departure you may be able to recall these things at any time. - 2 Peter 1:15

"In case of emergency ..."

We have all probably seen these words on a fire alarm, bus window, or airplane barf bag. Most of us even remember what to do if we are ever on fire, "Stop, drop, and roll!" (Of course, you might also want to yell, "HEY, I'M on FIRE!!!!) In case of an emergency, many of us have also learned how to perform the Heimlich Maneuver or give CPR. Why do we remember these things, these rules, these practices "in case of an emergency?" We remember simply because we want to be ready.

Peter wanted his readers to be ready, to have God's truth so firmly implanted in their hearts and minds that no matter the situation or circumstance they would be able to recall His directives and guidance long after he (Peter) was gone. We may not want to think about it, but people are truly perishing, every moment, every day. Will we be ready to respond when the need or opportunity arises?

It is an emergency and they need His truth now

For all your days be prepared, and meet them ever alike. When you are the anvil, bear. When you are the hammer, strike. - Edwin Markham
