Is God in the House?

But Christ was faithful as a Son over His household, whose household we are if we hold on to the courage and the confidence of our hope. - Hebrews 3:6

I have often heard folks speak of God's presence in their place of worship. As if Jesus inhabited brick, wood, and mortar, they will say, "God is in the house!" Well, let me tell you something.

God cannot possibly be "in your house," if you aren't in His.

Are you a part of God's household? There seems to be a condition. To be a part of the Lord's household a person must "hold on to the courage and confidence of our hope." Or, to put it simply, proof of our position is seen in our perseverance, to the end. Our claim to Christ's presence in "our house" is maintained by our consistent presence in His.

Yes, we may walk away for a time. We may stumble, but not as to fall. Our hope may even waver. This is understandable for we are flesh and blood and prone to wander. We all are, but if we are a part of His house, we will eventually return.

Is God in the house? Well, it depends. Are you in His?

Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other. - Walter Elliot
