But now our appetite is gone; there's nothing to look at but this manna! - Numbers 11:6
When the people of Israel became hungry on their way to the Promised Land, God gave them manna, bread from heaven and all the people rejoiced. Yet, after a year of eating it (day in and day out), all Israel grew tired of God's gift and demanded that Moses provide a little variety in their diet.
Perhaps we read this story and think, "How could they be so ungrateful?!" Then again, we might better ask ourselves, "Have we grown tired of God's gifts?" Anything at all? Our ministries? Our marriages? Our families? Our spiritual and/or physical blessings? Our fellowship? Our salvation or, dare I say it, Christ, the Bread of heaven, Himself? Do we remain grateful?
Every Sunday, as His followers, we celebrate Christ's life after a horrific death. We give thanks for salvation through His shed blood, but as we rise in honest worship, we must ask ourselves, "Is He still enough?" or rather, like the Israelites, have we begun to think, "There's nothing to look at, but this manna."
He has come. He is risen. May that be enough for us all.
