It's Where You're Going

Then he went and settled in a town called Nazareth to fulfill what was spoken through the prophets, that He will be called a Nazarene. - Matthew 2:23

I possess a distinctly Southern U.S. accent and though I have lived a couple of years in Africa and decades apart from my roots, it has not dissipated -- much. In Africa, I even learned to speak (passable) french, but I would even say that it remained a cross between Pepe le Pew and Foghorn Leghorn. The drawl is just hard to escape, y'all.

Someone once said that escaping one's upbringing is a difficult thing to do and perhaps it is. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, but reared in Nazareth as a Galilean. No doubt, you could have even heard it in His voice and the Bible clearly indicates that His Nazarene roots added to some of the confusion over His messianic claims. After all, could anything good come out of Nazareth?

I believe that there is a point in this for us all. While it is okay to embrace your past and heritage, you don't need to let it define you (be it good or bad), because life in and with Christ isn't really about where you've been as much as where you're going.
