You revoke God's word by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many other similar things. - Mark 7:13
Do you have any traditions in your family? Most families have a least one or two.
For example one of our fun family traditions is to call and sing Happy Birthday to our kids, particularly, my wife and if you knew my wife, then you would know why this is so funny ;-).
Our churches are full of traditions, too. Even if your church is not "traditional," you still have some. Sometimes our order of worship is traditional, as well as the times we meet. In fact, sometimes, the whole program of a church's ministry is rooted in tradition.
Of course, this only becomes a problem if the program begins to replace God's Word. This would be the sin of the Pharisees noted above, they revoked God's Word by traditions that had been handed down within their culture.
So, when it comes to our rituals and traditions, here's a simple rule to follow: Examine everything in the light of God's truth, then just keep what honors Him.
As soon as tradition has come to be recognized as tradition, it is dead. - Allan Bloom
