And he said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me, but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come and help you. Be of good courage, and let us be courageous for our people, and for the cities of our God, and may the Lord do what seems good to Him.” - 2 Samuel 10:11-12
Joab and his brother Abishai were two of King David's military commanders and in this biblical account they were preparing to take on two large enemies at once. Facing the Syrians and Ammonites at the same time would take great courage, teamwork, and skill, and they needed a simple plan to gain the victory.
These days it seems that the enemies of God's truth and God's people are too numerous to count. No one person is capable of handling them on his own. God's plan for victory will take courage, teamwork, and skill. Each of us must "play the man," help one another, skillfully apply God's Word, and remain encouraged in the hope that God remains sovereign in all things.
So, let's watch each other's backs, love the lost, be light, and leave the rest to Him.
When people begin treating one another as God's masterpiece waiting to be revealed, God's grace grows in their lives and cleanses them. - John Burke
