Therefore strengthen your tired hands and weakened knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but healed instead. - Hebrews 12:12-13
Albert Barnes wrote, "A courageous mind strengthens a weakened body and hope makes it fresh for new conflicts." Make no mistake, we are weak and the Christian life, though full of joy, is also full of difficulty. The most important question we must answer as we seek to move forward is this, "Is there anything we might do to make the journey a little easier?"
The author of Hebrews gave us the answer, saying, "... make straight paths for your feet...." Many of the troubles we encounter, if we are truly honest, just come from our own bad choices. We suffer because we have simply chosen a "crooked" path.
God will most likely not protect us from our foolish decisions. He desires that we learn from our mistakes in order that we might not repeat them. Such experience, good or bad, can be a great teacher if we will only learn from it. Stay on the straight path. Be strong and courageous. The Lord our God is with us, if we truly belong to Him.
But if it doesn't please you to worship the LORD, choose for yourselves today the one you will worship: the gods your fathers worshiped beyond the Euphrates River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my family, we will worship the LORD. - Joshua (24:15)
