Move On

For there has already been enough time spent in doing the will of the pagans: carrying on in unrestrained behavior, evil desires, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry. - 1 Peter 4:3

Have you ever heard anyone say, "I'm making up for lost time?"

Back in my "partying" days, if a person arrived late and started hitting the libations with extreme vigor, they might explain their behavior with just such a proclamation. Unfortunately, such an attitude usually led to a whole host of regret.

The sad truth is that you really can't do it. You cannot make up for lost time. You cannot relive your past or even recapture one millisecond of your previous life. What is done is well, just that, done. Of course, we shouldn't forget our past mistakes (or we might repeat them) and if our past was particularly bad, we still need to humbly move on in Christ. Always ask forgiveness of anyone who has been affected by your behavior, make retribution (of possible), embrace the consequences, but move on determined to let Christ be glorified from that moment on.

When the past is brought to mind (and the Accuser will bring it) and when that memory is not what you had hoped it would be, just remember Christ and the price He paid to redeem it, and move on.

Yesterday is a canceled check: forget it. Tomorrow is a promissory note: don't count on it. Today is ready cash: use it! - Edwin C. Bliss
