Woe to you when all people speak well of you, because this is the way their ancestors used to treat the false prophets. - Luke 6:26
Praise is a poor barometer when it comes to measuring faithful leadership in God's kingdom, and so is popularity. The prophets of the Old Testament were rarely popular, because they often refused to side with the majority. Jesus, Himself, was popular for a short time, but that popularity waned as the crowd began to discover the true direction of His ministry.
When it seems that you're headed upstream and everyone else is swimming against you, check your direction (is it God's?) and your attitude (is it godly?), then (if the answer to both of those questions is "yes") keep swimming with all your might!
We must remain true to God's Word no matter the personal cost, no matter how unpopular it may make us.
I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure, which is, "Try to please everybody." - Herbert Swope
