Not About Ability

Moses said, "Please, Lord, send someone else." - Exodus 4:13

When Isaiah personally encountered the Almighty God, he said, "Here am I, send me." When Moses met God in the Midian desert, he said, "There's Aaron, send him!"

In August of 1985, I heard the unmistakable call of God upon my life to go anywhere and do anything that He asked of me. This same God, by His grace, had gifted me with a life-companion who was just as surrendered as I was to His will and many times over the course of the last 38 years we have asked ourselves, "Why did we ever say, 'Yes?'"

Like Moses, we wondered as overseas missionaries if we would ever learn to speak the truth of God's Word with the clarity necessary to accomplish the task. Like Moses, throughout our ministry we have also been afraid that our weaknesses might be too great to overcome. Of course, we ultimately came to understand, and continue to learn (as Moses did), that God sent us and He will always make us ready for whatever task lies ahead.

It has never been, nor will it ever be, about our ability and it is not about yours either.

I no longer depend on pleasant impulses to bring me before the Lord. I must rather respond to principles I know to be right, whether I feel them to be enjoyable or not. - Jim Elliot
