But as for me, I will never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. - Galatians 6:14
Though the Apostle Paul could have bragged about his special place in God's service, he came to the understanding that all such self-promotion was evil. So, rather than dwell on his own accomplishments, Paul gloried in Christ's work on the cross because that work made one truth very clear.
This world is fading away.
By the truth which the cross of Christ proclaims, Paul understood (as we must) that this world is dying and in fact, should already be considered as "dead" to all who follow Jesus. There is nothing in this world worth boasting about, because it will all pass away; therefore, let us boast in Christ alone!
By a Carpenter mankind was made, and only by that Carpenter can mankind be remade. - Erasmus
