He said to his men, "I swear before YHWH: I would never do such a thing to my lord, YHWH's anointed. I [will never] lift my hand against him, since he is YHWH's anointed." - 1 Samuel 24:6
In America, at this moment, our presidential candidates are (depending on who you ask) unpopular. Every leader before either of them wasn't popular (at times) either. If a person leads anything, no matter how good or bad they are at their job, there will be times when he or she isn't "popular." On the other hand, popular or not, the Bible states that all authority has been established by God, whether we deem them "good" or "bad."
Maybe you think that your leader, your boss, your parent, your pastor (whoever is in authority over you at the moment) is bad. It might even be true, but do not forget that God has allowed this person to lead and that we should always respect the position even if such respect makes it practically impossible to respect the person who fills it.
God will use both good and bad leaders to accomplish His purposes. He is more than able to correct them, remove them, and even redeem them. We don't have to excuse them, but we do have to pray for them.
Because power corrupts, society's demands for moral authority and character increase as the importance of the position increases. - John Adams
