When Hiram heard Solomon’s words, he greatly rejoiced and said, “May the Lord be praised today! He has given David a wise son to be over this great people!” - 1 Kings 5:7
Hiram was the pagan king of a pagan people whom Solomon "hired" to provide much of the raw material for the construction of the Temple and palace complex in Jerusalem. Though Hiram did not worship the God of Israel, he certainly rejoiced in the fact that God was blessing Solomon, if for no other reason than he benefited directly from the blessing!
It seems to me that there are many "Hiram's" in our churches today who are pleased to be connected with spiritual blessing, but remain content to never receive them directly. They consistently clap longer or shout louder, but it is a false front utilized to hide hearts that are not completely surrendered to Christ. They readily cheer, "Go God," but stop short of ever going themselves.
In the end, Hiram walked away with little to show for his efforts and participation. Sadly, many today will join him and live their entire lives "on the outside looking in." Don't let it be you.
I do not believe in a fate that falls on men however they act; but I do believe in a fate that falls on them unless they act. - G. K. Chesterton
