Only He Can

But He said to them, “You give them something to eat!” And they said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless perhaps we go and buy food for all these people.” - Luke 9:13

Some of Jesus' closest followers had a problem. More than 5,000 hungry men (and adding potential family, the number neared 8,000) needed to be fed. Their first response was to look to their own resources. Their second was to let Jesus (substitute GOD) know that there was nothing they could do about it. To sum it up, their response and attitude to the crisis and need was affected by a flawed knowledge of their Creator.

How often do we who belong to Jesus serve God out of our resources instead of His? If there is a need before you, placed there by God, then you may be assured He will give you everything you need to meet it. Never be persuaded otherwise.

We must never serve God out of the exhaustible depth of our own abilities or resources. We cannot. Only He can.

Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think — according to the power that works in you — to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. - Paul, the Apostle (Ephesians 3:20-21)
