The scepter will not depart from Judah, or the staff from between his feet, until He whose right it is comes and the obedience of the peoples belongs to Him. - Genesis 49:10
What will be the legacy you leave to your descendants?
At the end of his life, Jacob took a little time to bless his sons. The prophetic blessings that he pronounced seemed to be a combination of evident self-fulfillment based upon each son's personal tendencies, yet also a hopeful promise for his future descendants. For example, Judah's blessing spoke of the Messiah to come.
Our futures are a "mix" as well. They are a mix of things we can and cannot control or influence. Some choices are made for us and some have already been made by us, and we must live with the consequences of them all (i.e., Reuben and Judah). We face decisions every day and we must choose with wisdom because we (and possibly our descendants) will live with the results of those decisions, whether they are good or bad.
Inevitably, your future belongs to God. Will your legacy be great? Only God knows, but we must certainly do our best to think before we act.
No legacy is so rich as honesty. - William Shakespeare
