Prayer Keys

After this, God answered prayer for the land. - 2 Samuel 21:14

After a severe three-year famine, God informed King David that it was all due to national, corporate sin. Once David acted to make retribution for the sin of his people, God responded in answer to the prayers of the faithful Israelites.

It is clear from the biblical record that God expects His followers to persist in prayer and that we often do not receive an answer because we give up too quickly. On other occasions, God refuses to answer or, at least answer as we would like because we ask wrongly, seeking our own personal desires rather than His purposes. Sin and disobedience in our personal life is often a hindrance to answered prayer.

While we may not pray enough, when we do pray we must first seek to be properly aligned with the One to whom our request is made. Otherwise, it might be better to just bow in silence, mouth shut, until His corrective guidance is received and heeded.

The Christian on his knees sees more than the philosopher on tiptoe. - D. L. Moody
