Rediscover the Holy

And the LORD told Moses, "Go to the people and purify them today and tomorrow. They must wash their clothes and be prepared by the third day, for on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people." - Exodus 19:10-11

I like the song entitled, "People, Get Ready." It speaks of the return of Christ and our need to be prepared when He comes again, plus, as one of the top 25 songs of all time, it just plain rocks the blues!

We do need to be ready, don't we? Everyone needs to consider their personal preparation for that day, yet what about the opportunity to meet the Savior that we have every single week. Are we "getting ready" for that?

Before the people of Israel could meet with God at Sinai they had to be purified. It was a serious event. While it is true that we live in the presence of the Almighty every moment of every day, shouldn't we also take seriously our preparation to meet with Him in worship each time we gather as the Body of Christ? For example, each Sunday in churches all across Africa, it is normal for a congregant to sit, pause, reflect, and pray immediately after he or she enters into the place of worship. Perhaps our time with God would be more valuable to us, if we took a similar moment to ready our hearts to meet Him.

The Israelites were overwhelmed with the holiness of God. Have we forgotten this most-important, all-encompassing attribute of the One whom we worship? Before we begin all the "howdy's" and "hallelujahs," why not take a moment or two to rediscover the Holy.

Anybody can observe the Sabbath, but making it holy surely takes the rest of the week. - Alice Walker
