But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and began to oppose what Paul was saying by insulting him. - Acts 13:45
Is it possible to be "religiously lost?"
Jesus and His disciples, even to this day, have often been met with the greatest opposition from those who are the most religious. Why is this true? Is it possible for someone to so strongly embrace their practice of Christianity that they reject Christ Himself?
While "religion" may be defined as the simple practice of faith, it sometimes (sadly) becomes a practice in the absence of faith. Those who were opposing Paul in this story also rejected Christ in the name of God, and there are those in our churches today who commit the same error. How are they known? Challenge their "religion" on the grounds of biblical truth and watch the "sparks" fly.
For the good of the local church, God's truth, and their own spiritual life, they must still be confronted. Just know that it is never easy.
Let me beg you, not to rest contented with the commonplace religion that is now so prevalent. - Adoniram Judson
