Rise Up!

Gilead remained beyond the Jordan. Dan, why did you linger at the ships? Asher remained at the seashore and stayed in his harbors. Zebulun was a people risking their lives, Naphtali also, on the heights of the battlefield. - Judges 5:17-18

When Deborah served as God's prophetess and judge to Israel, there seemed to be a problem with male leadership. For example, Barak lost his honor in the defeat of Sisera, because he refused to trust God. Deborah had alluded to this problem when she said, "When the leaders lead in Israel, when the people volunteer, praise the Lord." Later on, in her song, she was more specific in asking three tribes (Gilead, Dan, and Asher) why they had not joined in the defeat of their enemies.

I am personally thankful for every woman of God who has faithfully served Him through the years and I honestly do not know where the churches would be without them, but seriously, where are the men?

God's purposes cannot be hindered or confounded. He is sovereign and will accomplish all He desires. With this in mind, it is time for men to rise up and lead their families and God's churches as He has commanded. It is time for the men of God to get out of our "harbors" into the battle that is raging on the heights of our culture.

Rise up!

Rise up, O men of God! Have done with lesser things; give heart and soul and mind and strength to serve the King of kings. - William P. Merrill
