It was a night of vigil in honor of the LORD, because He would bring them out of the land of Egypt. This same night is in honor of the LORD, a night vigil for all the Israelites throughout their generations. - Exodus 12:42
Vigil may be defined as: "a period of keeping awake during the time usually spent asleep, especially to keep watch or pray."
Depending on the translation, the verse above says that all Israel should annually stand vigil (Keep watch) through the night because God stood vigil through the night over them when they escaped from Egyptian bondage. This "vigil," of course, then became a memorial throughout their generations and a reminder of God's protection in times of tribulation. In the same way, we who follow Christ Jesus should not fear. because God also watches over us through our "nights." Even when those "nights" seem long and dark, He never leaves and always sees. May we also honor His watchfulness by "standing vigil" for others, by interceding for them in their "dark nights." As Christ ever lives to make intercession for us (Hebrews 7:25), we should live to intercede for our brothers and sisters with whom we serve until the day of His return.
We are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of Nature has placed in our power. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. - Patrick Henry
