When David had finished speaking with Saul, Johnathan committed himself to David, and loved him as much as he loved himself. - 1 Samuel 18:1
We know that David (who would be king) had at least one good friend in Johnathan, the son of Saul. The verse above says that Johnathan "committed himself to David," which might be the very definition of "close."
Do you have any really close friends? Who is the closest of all? If you stopped to think about it, it would probably be the one who has been the most committed to you and your dreams/goals/aims. A close friend is also someone who tells you what you need to hear, even when you don't want to hear it. Of course, if you have Jesus and He has you, then you certainly have at least one committed, close friend in Him.
Most people are blessed to have two or three good friends in their life and some have only one. Today, let's thank God for good friends.
A friend is someone who has the same enemies as you have. - Abraham Lincoln
