Thank God for That Friday

When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" Then bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. - John 19:30

Thank God It's Friday!

TGIF

I wonder how many times I have heard this phrase used or seen it in print. We can thank T.G.I. Friday's restaurants for popularizing the term back in 1965. It then became mainstream and part of our cultural vernacular in the 70's. It remains an oft used expression to proclaim relief at the end of another week's labors and joy at the expected weekend's relaxation.

Yet, I wonder how thankful would we be if our Friday was filled with ridicule, hunger, thirst, beatings, unspeakable torture, and horrific death? Every year on Good Friday, Christ-followers remember Jesus' sacrifice, and I, for one, am supremely thankful for that day.

I thank God for the Friday when He took my guilt and shame.

I thank God for the Friday when He suffered in my place.

And ss hard as it is to admit or state, I thank God for the Friday when Jesus died.

I thank God for that Friday, because it precluded a weekend that has never been equaled. I thank God for that Friday, don't you?

If, then, you are looking for the way by which you should go, take Christ, because He Himself is the way. - Thomas Aquinas
