The Difference Maker

For when I am weak, then I am strong. - 2 Corinthians 12:10

Have you ever noticed how "new" often equates with "popular" in many cultures? Once opposition to a new idea or "fad" has waned, many people want to jump on the bandwagon and be identified with early success.

What is sometimes true in the world can also be true with "cultural" Christianity. The church at Corinth was apparently inundated with "powerful" and popular leaders, which is why Paul wrote the church a letter to emphasize the importance of weakness. The Apostle to the Gentiles apparently wasn't much to look at, nor was he an eloquent speaker, but his life evidenced the power and presence of God, which is the true test of a leader's worthiness.

The 1857 Fulton Street revival in New York City was kicked off by a man named Jeremiah Lamphier. Only six people attended their first prayer meeting. Six months later, 10,000 would regularly gather to seek the Lord's will and purpose.

The difference maker was then and will always be God's presence and power, not ours.

Revivals are born in prayer and sustained by prayer. - Selwyn Hughes
