The Glory of God

This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed His glory. And His disciples believed in Him. - John 2:11

When you hear or read the phrase "glory of God," what first enters your mind?

I don't know about you, but I am confronted by images of majesty, unapproachable light, grandeur, and fearsome power. Yet, about thirty years after the Son of God took on flesh and first revealed Himself in a Bethlehem barn, He attended a wedding and revealed His glory (for the first time) in a much different way. There was no unapproachable light, no fearsome power on display, no grandeur, and no majesty. The Savior of the world, at the request of his mother, simply (?) made wine, apparently good wine from regular old H2O.

How did this simple miracle reveal Jesus' glory?

As it should have. Jesus came to us to serve us and to save us. Mankind had known and encountered the fearsome God of Moses, but now he would personally encounter the loving God who came to seek and to save the lost. The glory of Jesus Christ, the outshining of His attributes, though manifest through His miracles, would be more clearly revealed through His sacrifice for you and for me. Glory to God!

Grace is but glory begun, and glory is but grace perfected. - Jonathan Edwards
