The LORD, the God of Israel, was their inheritance, just as He had promised them. - Joshua 13:33
Parents often desire to "leave something" to their children when they die and three times in my life I have been the recipient of such an "inheritance." Though I might like to have a similar opportunity to leave something for my kids, the likelihood of this happening is pretty low (given my "career" choice)!
It also seems that those that are fortunate enough to receive an inheritance, often end up losing it, or are disappointed with what they have received. We just seem to apply less value to those things that we have not truly earned. Of course, there is an "inheritance" that a person may receive and never lose. This is the inheritance of Christ Himself, bequeathed by God the Father upon the death and resurrection of Jesus imparted by the regenerating, indwelling Holy Spirit.
In consideration of such a gift, I have to wonder. Am I truly satisfied in Christ Jesus? If so, am I effectively passing Him on to the next generation? Are you?
My sword and shield I give to him that shall succeed me in my pilgrimage, and my courage and skill to him that can get it. - John Bunyan
