The Reality of Hell

And if your hand causes you to fall away, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and go to hell, the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to fall away, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to fall away, gouge it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. - Mark 9:43–48

"Hollywood" has on many occasions made vain attempts to depict the reality of hell. Sometimes the film industry even seeks to humorize hell and make it seem an enjoyable place. Churches have tried too, through Halloween alternatives, to raise awareness of hell's terrible truth. Yet, what is the reality of this place of eternal torment called "hell?"

Jesus described it for us. So, unless you happen to think He was a mythical being or a liar, then the picture He painted might be one to consider. According to Jesus, the greatest, most devastating fact about hell is that it is eternal, an eternity of torment, regret, lost hope, and inescapable damnation. That, in itself, should be enough to inform us that it is a place to be avoided and the abode of all that stands between mankind and a Savior.

It short, hell really should be feared and the One who overcame it, revered, loved, and worshiped.

The national anthem of hell is, "I Did It My Way." - Peter Kreeft
