There Is No Key

dave57pope

And every day they devoted themselves [to meeting] together in the temple complex, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to them those who were being saved. - Acts 2:46-47

As a pastor, missionary, and mission strategist I have often asked myself, "What is the 'key' to church growth?" What I have come to understand is that this is the wrong question to be asking.

There is no "key."

Every day after Pentecost, the Lord was adding to His Body those who were being saved. Notice that the Body was not at all concerned with additions, they were only concerned with praising GOD. They concentrated on His praise and this apparently influenced their favor with all the people. At the same time, they were also growing in unity, fellowship, and peace.

Would you like to see your church grow? Then stop trying to grow it. Praise God. Put your focus on Him and Him alone. He will grow you and your church, in His time, for His glory.

But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Yes, the Father wants such people to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. - Jesus (John 4:23-24)
