Do not covet your neighbor’s house. Do not covet your neighbor’s wife, his male or female slave, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. - Exodus 20:17
Of the ten commandments, this is 10th on the list and probably the one we talk about the least yet, break the most. So, what exactly is the problem with coveting?
Well, first of all, we can see how coveting might lead to theft, adultery, or even murder, all heinous sins, but should coveting be included or even on the same page with such wickedness? God thought so. You see, many sins originate with coveting, but the greatest problem, the most dangerous thing about it is that it indicates a heart that wants more than what God has already given.
To covet is to believe that God does not know what you need. A covetous heart says to God, "You are not my Provider. You are neither omniscient nor omnipotent. You are not God." In other words, coveting is blasphemy.
Maybe we should not ignore it.
