We Must Be Holy

For I am YHWH, who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God, so you must be holy because I am holy. - Leviticus 11:45

Apparently, purity is very important to God. Much of the Book of Leviticus speaks about how the Israelites were to keep themselves pure. There are rules about food, skin ailments, and even how to handle mold and mildew. Every rule served as a reminder that God is holy and that as His chosen people, Israel had to be holy, as well.

God requires holiness and He expects no less from us. Isn't it good to know that positional holiness has been accomplished by Him! We who belong to Christ (by grace through faith) are holy because we have been made so by the blood of Jesus Christ. The rules of Leviticus have been replaced by the Ruler of Calvary and rather than a reminder of sin, we have a reason to worship.

Faith, as Paul saw it, was a living, flaming thing leading to surrender and obedience to the commandments of Christ. - A. W. Tozer
